3 ex-Target workers file national origin discrimination claim

Although many forward strides have been achieved, national origin discrimination is a persisting difficulty in California workplaces. In California, where individuals from a wide variety of countries interact with each other on the job, conflict continues and numerous national origin discrimination claims are filed each year. Fortunately, at this time, it appears that workers are more willing to make their voices heard and protect their rights.

Recently, an incident at the popular department store, Target, has come to light. Several former employees of the chain brought forward claims against the company relating to racially charged statements made by managers in a training document. The document was intended to help Target managers be more racially sensitive. However, it in itself was a highly insensitive document.

The three workers who formerly worked at Target say that paperwork included offensive statements about Hispanics. Particularly, it said that not all Hispanics are wearers of sombreros, not all Hispanics enjoy dancing to salsa music, and much more. The document also detailed discriminatory generalizations about Mexicans and Cubans.

The story of these three individuals, who filed their national origin discrimination claims in California, may sound familiar to many other California workers who have suffered under the gauntlet of discrimination while trying their best to do good work on the job. If you have been the victim of workplace discrimination, the law provides many remedies to make you whole. In this day and age, no one should have to experience the ill effects of national origin discrimination.
