Stylist sues “Extra” host for defamation

On Behalf of | Sep 1, 2011 | Defamation

A Hollywood stylist is suing one of her former clients for defamation. Lindsay Albanese claims that her former client, Maria Menounos, falsely accused her of stealing and shared those accusations with others and in front of others, which cost her clients. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Esq., Albanese filed the defamation lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court a week ago Thursday.

Menounos was a former “Access Hollywood” host. She recently left that show to join competitor “Extra.” Albanese worked for her as a stylist from 2005 to 2009. She says in the lawsuit that Menounos came up to her at a gift suite party last June in California and demanded to talk with her. Albanese says that Menounos accused her of stealing loudly enough for other people at the party to hear.

Albanese says that Menounos loudly informed her that the fashion house Dolce and Gabbana stopped lending things to her because Albanese did not return things to them. Albanese says that Menounos also accused Albanese of stealing from her personally. Albanese also claims that Menounos shared these theft accusations with other clients and that these accusations cost Albanese clients and business.

According to THR, Esq., Albanese is seeking damages for defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and tortious interference with prospective economic advantage. An attorney representing Menounos against the defamation charges called the lawsuit meritless. He says that the truth will come out about Albanese and it will lead to the lawsuit’s dismissal and to the court telling Albanese she needs to cover Menounos’ legal fees.
